You report it as foreign income in your Canadian tax return.

Thank you for your reply.
Would you mind answering this question too?

i am just wondering if it would be necessary for me to pay any extra Canadian taxes for this particular income despite the fact that i have already paid the local taxes applying to this income in my home country.

It depends on what your home country is. Canada has tax treaties with some countries which prevents double taxation - but not with others.

Are you sure you are a tax resident? How long did you spend in Canada last year and what ties do you have toCanada. PRs don’t need to file tax returns while living abroad. Only in certain situations. You can certainly file if you want.

Hi Forum Members

Need help !!

I have a situation as I , my wife and my 11 years old daughter are PR's of Canada since 30th Sep'2017. We landed in Sep'17 and after staying in Canada ( Toronto ) till 3rd Nov '17 went back to India.

Now we have come back to Canada in Feb'20 and have settled permanently in Toronto. On 2nd April '2020 I was blessed with a baby girl who is a Canadian citizen by birth.

Now I have to apply for CCB & other benefits , would request for your inputs on whether I have to file my Income tax return for 2018 & 2019 disclosing my income of India. If yes how to do so?

What would be the best option for us keeping in mind your interactions on this forum.

Thanks !!

Faiyaz

You don't file taxes for 2018 and 2019.

You will have to declare your foreign income when applying for benefits/credits.
