Hi all,

Do we know when will IRCC open to accept 'Submit your interest to sponsor form' for 2024?

Thanks.

Typically announcement will come in the fall each year around September. In general parent sponsorship is not guaranteed in Canada and there is extremely high demand for a very limited amount of spots. There seems to be an attempt to try and prioritize those who have been waiting the longest so there is a good chance that we may see changes to the PGP over the next few years. Although immigration information states that a PR can sponsor their parents or grandparents after 3 years of meeting LICO except in Quebec which is 1 year the wait time until PRs or citizens gets selected for parent sponsorship is typically much longer than that. It is not unusual for people to wait 5-10+ years to sponsor their parent or grandparent and processing of applications can add another 1-3+ years. Canada has an ageing population and a healthcare system in crisis but has been welcoming millions of people in the past few years. Not all the people who have moved to Canada will be able to sponsor their parents. Many million in Canada don’t have family doctors for example and it is scheduled to get worse. The wait list for a longterm care bed is years in many regions. If you have seen the news recently you are aware of some of the issues facing the healthcare system in Canada. The government in Canada should do a better job communicating the realities of parent sponsorship instead of posting when you technically qualify for parent sponsorship.

Yeah if more parents and grandparents become PRs it will increase the burden on an already struggling healthcare system. As it is many immigrants are leaving Canada after they come here mostly I think because of lack of job opportunities and the high cost of living. That number will only increase if they have to move back to their home countries to take care of their aging parents.
