PR Expired in 2014. Do I have to renounce PR status before new EE application?

Hello,

I got PR Card through my family in 2009. I only visited Canada for a few weeks and then left. My PR Card expired in 2014. I am now in a place in my life that I want to migrate to Canada for good.

My question is: Can I go ahead and apply for Express Entry like any first time applicant is applying or do I have to Voluntarily Renounce my PR Status first (there is link on how to renounce the PR status, but i cannot paste links here) ?

You have to officially renounce PR before you can apply again.

2014 was only 3 years ago. Could you go through some legal channels to get re-instated as a PR before trying Express Entry?
