Hello everyone,

My PR expires on 25 July 2022.
I will be able to renew my PR card only by 1 May 2022 when I meet the residency obligation of 730 days, and I am planning to travel on 5th May 2022 and come back by 15 July 2022.

My question:
Can I apply for urgent processing and travel on 5th May 2022 or better to apply for normal processing?
would I face any issue when I come back since my card will expire soon after my arrival?

Thank you for your support

Best Regards
Omer

Will you still meet your RO if you leave for a month and a half? Will you have met the 730 days 5 years from July 25 2022? You will have started to lose days when you initialled landed. You don’t have grounds for urgent processing since you still have a valid PR card. The fact that you are very close to the 730 days often means longer processing.

On 1 May 2022 I will meet RO of 730 days, and will keep 5 days extra to sumbit the application just in case there is any error. and I will travel for 2 months and come back to Canada while my PR card is still valid, before 10 days of the expiry date, and this trip will be after I meet my RO and after i sumbit my PR card renewal applicaiton

If you only meet 730 days on May 1st you probably won’t continue to meet your RO when you leave Canada. After the first 5 years you must always meet the 730 days in the past 5 years on any day. You will need to meet the 730 days in Canada between July 15, 2017- July 15, 2022 when you return to Canada to be compliant with your RO. That will mean you will lose days from when you initially landed in Canada.

Thank you very much, this is a great note... I would like to clarify that my landing date was 3rd June 2017, and my PR card expriy date is 25 July 2022. On the landing, I stayed 60 days then left and came back again 1July 2020. This is why by 1st May 2022 still I will meet the RO of 730 within the last 5 years
so from 3rd June 2017 to 3rd June 2022 I should meet 730 RO, I will meet this on 1st May 2022.
in this case I comply of the RO and can travel and come back by 15 July 2022.
isnt right?

my quesiton, can I sumbit my renwal applicaiton as urgent and travel right after the application sumbition? do you have any recommendation?

again thank you very much for your great advise
best regards

You will need to meet 730 days out of the past 5 years when you land on July 15 2022 so 730 days between July 15 2017-2022 to remain compliant with your RO when you return. Based on my calculations you won’t meet RO when you return. After the first 5 years you switch to a rolling total where on any day you must have been in Canada for 730 days out of the past 5 years.

why 15 July?, I didnt land on 15 July2017. Already I will meet the RO on 1st May and sumbit my renewal application.
my landing date was 3 June 2017, so from 3rd June 2017 to 3rd 2022 (5 years) i will meet the RO of 730 days.

Please clarify for me why you still consider 15 July?

You said you planned to travel on 5th May 2022 and come back by 15 July 2022. The border officer might examine your case on 15 July 2022.

@canuck78 probably mistyped and didn't auto correct.

Yes, I am planning to travel 5th May after I sumbit my renewal card application. So I passed the RO and I lived 730 days within the last 5 years of application sumbtion
why the border officer examin my case on 15th July again, and if he did, I will tell him that already I met the RO on 1 May 2022 and sumbited my renwal and my current PR card is still valid up to 25 July and this is why i travaled and coming back before it expries.

is it ok this way? or do you think there is any issue?

Because it's his job to examine any traveler status. Of course, you can put it this way.
