PR card renewal with expired passport

Hi,

I have a concern, my passport is expired and y pr card just expired last month. Will I be able to renew it with my expired passport? When I checked the documents required in the CIC website it says:

"a clear copy of:

your valid passport or travel document, OR
the passport or travel document you held at the time you became a permanent resident"

since my current passport is expired can I then submit the old passport that I used when I first landed and became a PR? And not to include the expired current passport anymore?

**I cannot do the option of renewing my passport first before the PR card because our consulate requires a valid PR card to renew our passport.
**I really was not planning on renewing my PR card and passport as I had no intentions of leaving Canada and planned on waiting until I can apply for a Citizenship but then something came up and I might have to leave for a month within this year.

Thank you to whoever can enlighten me with my concern.
