PR card renewal time

Hello,

My parents applied for a PR card renewal and CIC started to process their applications at Dec 28. It's been 100 days since that time (CIC website shows that it takes 73 days to process it). Gave them a call only to find out that they are not providing any more details other then a fact that the application is still in progress and has been advised to "check the status sometime in May"..

Wondering if the processing time estimation is anywhere correct and if it takes a such long time for PR renewal for anybody else?..

It is possible that they decided to pull your parents files out to check if they really have 730+ days in Canada. If that is the case, it can take a lot longer.

Did your parents meet the Residence Obligation of 730 days in the 5 years prior to application date? Did they submit all the required documents for the application including Notices of Tax Assessments? Is their proof of physical presence in Canada clear and convincing? Do they have extensive travel? Do they work in Canada? Unless the forum has more detail then its difficult to speculate as to the delay...there is the caveat that quoted processing times apply to routine applications..read CIC believe your delared days.

Just a quick update here.. Still waiting for any news for my parents. Made CIC a call, they are not waiting for any extra documents from our side and suggested "just to wait". Both parents met the residence obligations (1100 and 950 days for the past 5 years), all tax assessment notices have been provided.. Seems like CIC is indeed doing some extra checks.. Any idea on how long it might take? Few month or more? CIC is not giving any estimations and processing time is already almost double of what they on the website.

Your parents should make an ATIP request - check the CIC website on procedure for this. Ask for FOSS/GCMS notes it may show what the hold up is. Do they have travel in the relevant 5 year period and is this reflected in their travel documents?
