Hi everyone, ;D

Please advise on timing for PR card renewal from outside Canada.
I application was received in August 27, 2014, it's been 162 days and based on official tracking no information is still available.
I started to get nervous (it had been 6 months already), that I can't enter the country and would appreciate any ideas/help.

Lily.

PR cards can't be renewed from outside Canada. CIC will only issue PR cards to a Canadian address.

If you are a PR outside Canada with lost or expired PR card and need to return, all you have to do is apply for a PR Travel Document. If you meet the residency obligation, it will be issued to you and you can return to Canada right away.

Thank you very much for your response! I have a Canadian address to send the PR card to; and it is mentioned in all submission documents. People can send the card back to me as soon as it arrives; that will not be a problem either.

I am wondering when CIC will update the on-line status since 80% of documents from the same submission time were already opened/in process according to official statistics.
Any experience whether CIC at least notify the applicant somehow if application was declined/send for residence questionnaire etc?

I can't comment on processing times or online status.

You should know that some people are asked to pick up their PR cards in person at a local CIC office.

And as I said as long as you meet RO (which I assume you do since you applied to renew your PR card) you can always just apply for a PR Travel Document wherever you currently are, to return to Canada at anytime.

Thank you kindly for your quick responses! How long is this travel document valid, when issued by Canadian Embassy?

Based on posts from other's, it seems they can be valid for around 6 months or so. But I have no idea if there are certain circumstances in each case that warrant a shorter or longer expiry date of the PRTD. Do a search for PR Travel Document related posts on this site, and you should find more answers.

Here is the app for PRTD: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp
Just make 100% sure as of the time you apply for PRTD, you are in compliance with the residency obligation as it will trigger an investigation into your residence history over past 5 years.
