Hi

My PR Card is expiring in 3 months and I am in US on L1 Intra Company Transfer. I have met all the requirement for PR Renewal, but my main concern is that I won't be able to go to Canada as of right now.
I researched and found out that for renewal, you have to go personally there.

Will I be able to go back to canada on Travel Document?

Please suggest.

Thanks

Did you get transfered by a Canadian company from Canada to the US? If yes, then you probably might be able to send your documents for renewal and go pick it up before your card expires.

You must be physically present in Canada to get your PR card renewed. If you are visa exempt to Canada or you are driving, you can generally get in on your expired PR card and landing papers. If you are not visa exempt and flying, the airline may not let you on the plane with an expired card so you might need a travel document. You can ask at a Canadian embassy in the US if you need a travel document and if you do, how long it takes so you can apply for it in time before you go.

Getting a PR card renewed or getting a travel document should not be a problem even after your PR card has expired as long as you meet the residency requirements. You can renew once you are back in Canada to stay.

Thanks for replying.

It means I should apply my PR right now and whenever I go to Canada, I can pick up my PR Card.
I will be definately driving to Canada.

thanks

You are given an appointment date to pick up your card at a local CIC.
