PR card (expired) to cross boarder from us to Canada?

My card is expired(my bad) is it needed or CBSA can determine my status

If you turn up at a land border sure but an expired card is no good to fly back to Canada you would need a PRTD

As bs65 said, yes CBSA can dtermine your status IF you cross into Canada via a land border from the USA.

You CANNOT fly back into Canada as there are no CBSA agents at overseas airports and the airl8nes themselves have VERY struct guideline to follow which are quite simply, no valid PR card or valid PRTD and you will NOT be allowed on the aircraft.

There is a good chance that you will be reported at the border if you are not compliant with your RO.
