Hi,
Just got landed and am wondering if I need to use the Address Notification Tool to provide my address to CIC in order for them to issue me my first PR card or is it really automatic after I landed.
The information is a bit contradictory on their website as per:
Q: I’m a new permanent resident of Canada. Do I need to apply for a permanent resident (PR) card?
A: No. You will automatically receive your first permanent resident card by mail. That is part of the immigration process.
Within 180 days of becoming a permanent resident, you must send your Canadian address to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) using our Address notification tool. CIC will then mail your first card to you, within four to six weeks. If you do not send CIC your address within 180 days, the PR card will be cancelled and you will have to apply for a new one.
So as you can see within the same paragraph in the FAQ section of the cic website they provide contradictory info: First hey say, NO you will automatically get it; Then they go on saying : "...within 180 days....you MUST send USING THE TOOL!!!...if you do not..etc..."
Please help clarify as this is not well-defined!
thanks
