Hi,

My apologies as this is probably covered somewhere in this forum but I'm hoping someone can answer me (fairly) quickly!

My common-law partner has just been approved in her application for Canadian PR. The COPR letter indicates we must arrive in Canada by 31 May 2014.

My question is:

Can we visit my family in Canada earlier (say Feb) and go through the interview process then? We would only spend a week or so in Canada, return to the UK, then the plan is to make the 'full' move to Canada in June. Can we put my family's address down as a place to send her PR Card?

Basically, we want to be able to 'check-in' to Canada earlier, get the PR stuff done and dusted, and then return to the UK for a couple of months before moving permanently.

Does this make sense? Any advice?

Thanks

Yes, you can arrive in Feb. COPR mentions you must arrive in Canada by May 31 so, as long as you land before that date you are good to go.
To your second inquiry yes, you can give your family's address.

Wow that was quick! Thanks.

So, if we visit my family for a week in February and return to the UK we won't have to undergo the same process on the second (and final) visit to Canada in June? By that time her PR status will be confirmed?

And the Citizenship and Immigration people won't have a problem with that?

I just don't want to have any nasty surprises.

Thanks again.

You will be fine to do that. Just make sure you get her B4 (goods to follow) taken care of as well, so there won't be any surprises when you guys bring all of her 'stuff' with you on the second trip.

You don't need to provide a b4/B4a until you "settle". If you are only staying for a week after landing, you are not settling at that time. Provide those documents when you return permanently.
