Hi,

I came to Canada in 2007, and finally became permanent resident in december 2010. I had put my children in the application as they are dependent. When my letter of acceptation came, it said that my wife as well as my children had become permanent canadian residents. We also all received our certificat de selection from Quebec. Now my question is, my wife is here with me but my children are still in my home country Guatemala. How can I bring them as soon as possible? Do I have to wait for tha Canadian embassy in Guatemala to contact them? How long would that take? thank you.

So your children were included on your application for permanent status as your dependents? Were they designated as "non- accompanying", or did you pay an additional $150 in fees for each of them and designate them as "accompanying"? If they were designated "accompanying", then Guatemala would have contacted them to get their passports so they can issue permanent resident visas to them also, and then they would travel to Canada to "land" and become permanent residents. Guatemala would not have issued your permanent residence in December 2010, though, and still be waiting to contact your children - the request for passports to issue the visas would have all gone out at the same time. If you designated them as accompanying and they did not get passport requests from Guatemala, you need to find out why. Just like yours - their visas will have expiration dates on them and if they don't "land" before the expiration date, you have to start all over again and sponsor them on a new application.

Likewise, if you designated your children as "non-accompanying" dependents, they will not be issued PR visas as part of your application. You would have to submit a new application to sponsor them.
