Hey guys, I recently got a PPR, but I'm in Houston right now. I understand I have to send my passport to CIC, and I'm planning on doing that once I get back to Toronto. Question is, since I'm coming back into Canada with a valid visa anyways, can I land without actually sending them my passport. I'm assuming the reason they requested my passport anyways is so they can give me a visa to enable me re-enter and land in Canada, but I already have a valid visa. I'd appreciate any input. Cheers

You have a valid visa, but it is a temporary visa. You need to get the Permanent visa.

Come back to Canada using your normal visa, send passport to CIC, they will stamp the passport with permanent visa. Then you can flagpole at any Canadian border to become Permanent Resident.

You don't necessarily have to wait until you come back. Buy a USA Xpresspost envelop (for return) and fold it inside the main envelope with passport and PPR email. Courier that to CPC Ottawa and barring any unforeseen circumstances the turnaround is short of a 5 business days (3 for me, longer for you since you're in the US).

Then you can land when entering Canada using the one time PR visa and your COPR.
