Hi everyone,

I'm really curious to know how long I'm likely to be granted a postgraduate work permit for. I am studying a MA in Political Science at UBC (to finish in September this year) - my acceptance letter stipulates that the course is 1-2 years, but most students complete it in one full year (i.e. September to September; three academic terms).

I realise it's up to the discretion of the CIC officer, but I would be curious to hear from anyone else who has completed similar length courses and has received a postgrad work permit. If you could please share the length of your permit that would be greatly appreciated! I'm really wanting to apply for PR, and worry I will only be granted a 1 year permit, which will make this very difficult. I am wondering whether there is a chance I might be granted a 1.5 year permit, or even a 3 year one (would be a miracle!).

Thanks so much for your help!

Kate
