Dear friends,
I am a postdoctoral fellow and my contract with the current group will be finished by Feb. 15, 2023. I now have an offer from another group in the same UNIVERSITY. I contacted HR Immigration about this, and they mentioned that you have to wait until the new work permit is issued. The problem is that the new group asks me to work right away, and as you know, because of the pandemic, work permit issues, it will take more than 5 months. My question is that since I have not changed my employer, which is the university, why I can not work in the new position with implied status?
I also let the university to know about the new policy for work permit due to COVID-19 as follows:
“Due to COVID-19, you may not need to wait until your work permit application is approved to start your new job or work for a new employer if you’re eligible. You just need an email from IRCC that says you have permission to change jobs."
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...t/temporary/extend/change-jobs-employers.html
But the university said that you may not be eligible since you have not changed your employer!!
It is really frustrating and confusing.
I would appreciate any advice in this matter.
Thanks.
