Hi

After 10 months of preperation, the Postal Strike has stopped a couple of documents from my wifes employer getting through, which in turn has just pushed my Police check up to 3 months, effectively my 3 months from issue ended on the 4th of July. Is anyone aware of any flexibility around this time scale or is it rigid, and will require a new Police check for the application to be progressed?

Thanks in advance.

try getting a new one because it has expired already.

There's definitely flexibility.

My husband's application included "expired" police certificates and we were not asked to re-do them. So there's definitely some wiggle room - although I think it's impossible to say what will happen in your specific case. If I were in your shoes, I would submit the "expired" police certificates and include a polite cover letter asking them to give you a break on the date due to the postal strike. You can then either wait and see if they are accepted - or request new police certificates while your application is being processed and forward them to the processing office once they are available.

This is what we submitted:

4 US State certs - all less than three months old (i.e. valid)
FBI cert - 4-5 months old
Egyptian cert - 5-6 months old

We also had one cert that was missing entirely (for very valid reasons). But that's a different story...

I got advised by the CIC call center to submit my old police check (it was about two weeks over the three months due to postal problems that were suprisingly not to do with the strike! lol) along with a letter explaining why it was old and to let them know I was going to be sending a new one along as soon as I could get it processd. The guy told me there should be no problem as long as i provided an explanatioin for it! Now lets hope he knew what he was talking about... hehe
