Greetings I'm new, and apologies if this question is repeated, but i cant seem to find right answer for this question,
i' would like to know if i am eligible for the post study Open work permit [meaning I'm not restricted to work under the field of my study] under the SPP Program, The course that I'm choosing is a 2 year diploma in contemporary music, [an associates or foundation level] my educational background is 10+2 and I'm preparing for the IELTS, it would very kind if someone can clear out my doubts regarding the same.

Thank you very much in advance

1. Post study open work permit is called Post graduate work permit (PGWP).

2. After getting your diploma of 2 years from a recognized / participating institute, you are eligible for PGWP of 3 years.

It's not certain that you will get a 3 year PGWP for a 2 year Diploma course. It could be 2 to 3 years work permit.

first of all thanx for the quick responses Inam and Jd, im planing to do my diploma from either Humber college or any of the 42 colleges listed under the Student Partners Program which i believe are all community colleges, i cannot post the link here but if you just google "spp Canada" the first link has the list of colleges and brief details about the progra. I could nowhere find more info about the open work permit for this program, i need to know all the terms and conditions regarding the same.

Regards
Ravi.

1. The rules of PGWP are all the same there is nothing special for SPP programs.

2. You can find the details about PGWP here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

Inam thanx again!

i went through the website , it kind of says that with a minimum of 8 months (900 hours) program I'm eligible for an open work permit, and also for the 1 year and 2 year programs, but the consultancies here in India have been telling me something different, they have told me its easier to apply and get an open work permit if you did a post graduate course like MBA or any Masters degree program, but it could be a little tough to get the open work permit if you apply after a post secondary program like a diploma, so i didn't really get that "little tough" part. i am digging in and looking up everywhere for the same, what are those terms and conditions that actually determine for the post graduate open work permit after doing my diploma.

1. There is no such thing as the one that you have been told. Both masters and diploma holders get their PGWP without any problem. No one is preferred over the other for PGWP.

wow thats good news for me. so the PGWP wont have any restrictions right? it will be an open work permit?

Open work permit is a permit that is issued to you without having any job at hand. PGWP is also an open work permit which is issued to you for a duration (depends on the length of your studies in Canada) without having any job at hand.

Inam thanx again, i also found out that not all colleges listed under the SPP qualify for PGWP. where can i find more info about this?

great thank you so much, i never seem to find such info on my own :|, Inam, the colleges that did not list the list of qualifying program means that the PGWP is applicable to all programs right? colleges like Humber, Bow Valley etc.
