Once you land successfully, is thre information about how one would obtain a social insurance number and a healthcard? I have temporary ones from my work permit but I want to make sure that once I land these don't become immediately invalidated and that they would last for the duration of the work permit, so I have time to get those all updated

For your SIN, you just go to the nearest Service Canada location to get a new number which they give you on the spot - you then just give that to the employer
For Healthcard, you go to your provincial desk (ie Service Ontario if you're in Ontario, Ministry of Health BC etc etc) and they will give you a new card - your current one is valid until the end of your work permit.

I tried to get a new Health card for BC, I asked the MSP people and they told me you have to get it from ICBC driving licence office now, and they can't do it until I have my PR card as proof.

Kind of ridiculous, lucky my old health card is still valid for a little longer but I don't know what happens if it expires and I still don't have a PR card. They should make the COPR acceptable proof for these things when the pr card can take so long to process.
