Can I apply for post graduation work permit if my Visa is expired?

I am an international student and I have a study permit in Canada.
I completed my course in December 2014 and I have received my transcript 2 weeks ago.

My Visa has expired, but I have a study permit valid till March 31st 2015.
So my question is, Can I apply for post graduation work permit with my expired Visa?

Or is that a problem? What should be the best option for this situation?
