Hi again Miss Dominica! Thanks for your response, really appreciate it. I actually got lost on the site and could not find back the tread (lol) until now. To answer your question, our sponsor lives in Canada and filed from Canada. She is sponsoring my family of 3.

The 15 months you referred to - is it for spouses only or does it apply to sponsorship of other family members too?

Also, i would like to know if the 15 month count starts from the date that POS receives the application approval from the office in Canada?

Hi Karen,

If you ever lose the thread, just type in "Port of Spain" in the search box at the top of the page, and it will pop up as the first object in your search results and you can just click on it.

The 15 months is for spouses/common-law/conjugal/and KIDS (families). It refers to 15 months from when POS receives the file.

Where is the applicant from (not the sponsor, but the applicant(s), ie. you and your kids)? The applicant (you and your kids) must be from one of the caribbean countries orginally to have filed through POS. That's what I was asking, sorry if I wasnt clear. So you are separated from your husband during this whole process? That's rough.. I know.

Feel free to share any details you want about your case with us. We love to get to know each others' stories. How old are your kids? Have you ever been to Canada?

Have a good one!

I think we should do something fun and interesting to pass the time. For instance we can all give the romantic stories of how we met our spouses!

MissDominica... You are the go to person for any questions related to immigration!! Maybe consider a career change?!! Or maybe a consultant on the side, as if medical school/ doctor isn't busy enough!!

Keep up the wonderful support though. You are doing a great job and definitely ease the stress. Thanks for all your answers and advise. Always a pleasure to read/ hear from you. Thank you!

P.S. hope you don't leave when your partner arrives. I will need your advise, calm answers and positiveness as my time passes and drags on!! I'm sure your husband will want ALL your time. Have a wonderful night.

One other question for everyone...

I have always filed my taxes, however my husband has not. He came to Canada in 2008 on a 6 month work VISA. He was out of status and left Canada September 2012. During this period he filed no Canadian taxes, but Canada Revenue Agency states he must file. We are in the process of doing this (I have to do it all but need him to notarize letters saying I can sign on his behalf, so it's a slow process). CRA advised us to file his taxes because we have a child together and they need his records to combine with mine for benefits (not that we will receive any).

My question is will him not filing taxes have an impact on our immigration application? Any thoughts or experience with this?

Hey Dadzin,

Medicals are valid for one year from the day they were done. So if she did her most recent medical on Jan 10, 2012, then it would expire on January 10, 2013. What date did she go to the doctor and get her most recent medical done?

CIC is now able to ask for an extension of medicals, if the medical is the ONLY thing they are waiting on to issue your visa. If there are other things still going on (eg. background checks, etc) then they cannot ask for an extension of medicals. So, for example, if your medical was supposed to expire in 2 weeks and CIC decided they were ready to issue your visa, they would extend your medicals so that they didn't expire in those last 2 weeks while they were giving you your physical visa.

Hi Behopeful!

What a sweet thing to say, thank you very much! Trust me, when I first came to the POS thread, I was the one ASKING all the questions and relying on the seniors to answer them for me. But slowly I guess I'm becoming one of the so-called "seniors."

I will definitely stick around to encourage everyone! Sometimes on days when you don't hear anything and you feel hopeless, it's a cute little message on this thread that will pull you through.

No, it won't. There have been a few issues (or rumors of issues) when the SPONSOR owes taxes to the government and them having to pay it and such. I don't even know much about how that issue would even arise (I read it on an old thread). But I don't think taxes from 2008 would prevent your husband from getting PR. If anything ever came up, they would just tell him to file and pay anything he may owe. But it won't prevent him from getting PR and I highly doubt it will come up at all. If it does, it will just be to file (which you are doing anyway) so don't worry about it.
