Hi, I will be attending graduate school in Calgary this Fall. I am planning on staying with a friend who lives in Toronto for a few days. Would this be an issue if my port of entry is different from my destination? My second question is, would 3 hours of layover be enough for me to complete all the international student immigration process? Fyi my flight plan would be from my home country > Dubai > Montreal > Toronto > Calgary.

Yes, TO can be your port of entry and 3 hours should be enough time.
