When is it necesary to submit a Police Clearance? Is this something that is automatically required or is this something that is only asked for in individual cases? Can it be submitted with an original application or do you wait until it is rtequested?

Ideally you should submit all of the required police clearances with the original application package. Police clearances are mandatory for all applicants. You must provide a police clearance for every country you have lived in for six months or more since the age of 18.

Since a PC is required from each and every country where you stayed for more than 6 months, it may take more time to get a pc if one has lived in more than one country, especially long ago. You should also take into account how long it would take cic to process your application. A pc is valid for 12 months. If you submit pc with original application and it takes longer for them to process your application, then you may be required to submit fresh pc to them.

where did you find that it's valid for 12 months? CIC's website says that "The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application."
I am just trying to understand.

Shuga pointed that out to me in the 'parent sponsorship join...' thread:

"i think it's valid for 12 months -
from Application for permanent residence instruction guide:

Police certificates are generally valid for 12 months from the date they are issued. However, if a final decision is not made on your application before the expiry of your police certificate, the visa office may request that you provide a new one."

Thank you for the help. I have since found it on the CIC website and I am sure that it says it must not be obtained more than three months before the application is submitted. I am going to go with this assumption. If anyone has any different info please let me know and where you found it so that I can verify it. Thanks again.

I think that you should go with the information on the CIC web site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

Hi to everyone . I need help pls. I'm currently living here in the Philippines my husband is in Canada petitioned me and we were in the final stage. I received an email from Canadian Embassy Manila (CEM) Feb. 13 and their requesting a Police Certificate overseas they gave me 45 days to get it. Beacause I used to stay abroad for more than 6months.

Is it ok if I ask my friend to get it for me instead since she's currently stay in that country. Do you think it's valid instead of getting it myself in the nearest Embassy here in Manila, because it's been how many years has past I went back here in the Philippines year 2009. I dont have any requirements to show here in the Philippines like Residence Card I read at CIC website that's the one requirement to obtain that Police Certificate in the Embassy.

Or is anyone knows what are the commonly requirements they might ask on how to obtain a Police Certificate Abroad if I'll get it at the nearest Embassy?

Then Feb. 15 I received and URGENT letter from Canadian Embassy Manila (CEM) requesting for my PASSPORT , Appendix A and Personal History it was dated Feb. 14 they gave me also 45 days for this. Can I just send them all together and wait for my Police Certificate Abroad?

Thanks in advanced to everyone for your opinions or answers on my question.

0jenifer0: IMO, personal presence is required for pc - atleast in India. If you require a pc from abroad, your first step should be to visit that country's website and get that info from there. If its not available there, get their phone number and call them up.

I do not know what you mean when you say " I dont have any requirements to show here in the Philippines to obtain that Policee Certificate in the Embassy". Do you have a passport with the visa and/or entry - exit stamp of the country in question? Most likely, that is all you would need for the embassy.

I would also ask my friend , to inquire from their end as to if it is possible for them to directly get the pc. compare both ways and take the shortest route.

From which countrty do you need a pc, if you dont mind me asking.

This is where Shuga must have got the information. scroll down to the section of police certificates under step 1 gather documents. The 12 month validity is mentioned there.

When it comes to differing views, I'd err on the side of caution.

sakamath,
yes, they are valid for 12 months but they have to be submitted not later than 3 months after they are issued.
