I just learned my application has been rejected because the FBI Background check "isn't in the correct format." I'm a US citizen and have a copy of the report that clearly states the background check is clear.

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm at a loss of what to do now.

Can you elaborate on this? e.g. Post the wording from the CIC letter.

Also, what is with correct format? what format are they talking about.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reviewed your application for permanent residence. We have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of a complete application as described in sections 10 and 12.01 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Your application is rejected for being incomplete.
Specifically, your application does not include the following elements:
o The Police certificate from USA that you provided with your application is not acceptable. Please verify our website in order to determine the required document. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/
Note: A full review of your application was not performed. There may be other elements

Is it definitely the document:

Name of document(s) to get: Identity History Summary Request (issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigations – FBI)

And does the PDF you uploaded open properly?

It does. The background check is from August 2016, so timing isn't an issue either.

Don't take this bad, but you definitely uploaded it? Every page?

(lol -- that actually made me chuckle. Thank you.)

Yes. It's only one page.

Absolutely no idea then dude...

It's definitely the RIGHT police cert? I know some countries have 1 or 2 types... (Really trying here :p )

Also, was it definitely a scan of the original? In colour?

If you're confident then you might try appealing the decision.

This is what it says:
(All my info)

TSA-NON FED ARLINGTON VA 2016/08/26
A search of the fingerprints on the above has revealed no prior arrest data. CJIS Division
2016/08/27 Federal Bureau of Investigation

I used the channeler that does our local airport's security checks. I think the "TSA-NON FED" part is the wrong part, or what's throwing CIC off?

Did you get it directly from the FBi, or through an approved channeler?

It should say something along the lines of: "A search of the fingerprints provided by this individual has revealed no prior arrest data. This does not preclude further criminal history at the state or local level."

The document title in the top left corner is I-787.

Sorry, I just read that you got it through a channeler. The wording is way off - it seems like they've requested a different type of FBI report for you.

Sorry you had to go through this - but it looks like you'll have to get a fresh report, according to specs (google images of FBI PCC) and resubmit your entire application.

That's what I'm getting from this too. It's so frustrating! Like, just tell me to get a new one! It will literally take a week, max! lol

I understand that CIC meets processing times by rejecting without chance to correct the documentation mistakes. But they could at least take the processing fees and give a chance to revisit the mistake. Hope they take that approach in future!
