What kind of note? Like a typed up paper stating it was requested?

Yah for anything I wasn't able to include I put an explanation in a word doc, printed it and included it with the application. That's what they advised me to do when i called the CIC hotline.

In my case I made a note we didn't include the Lebanon certificate as it was a 3 month waiting time. I also included an explanation why we couldn't get the Singapore clearance (they require a letter from the Canadian embassy before they will do it).

Alright, thank you, we might call to confirm just to make sure, can't slip up with things that take so long hehe

The hotline # sounds a good idea . Can anyone give it to me please .

I got mine done (well, my wife's, really) at a private agency in Toronto. They did it digitally and sent the prints right off to the RCMP electronically. I don't know if agencies in the U.S. will have the same kind of direct line to the RCMP as up here, however, so it is possible you may have to get a printed version (on the proper C-216C form) if they even those forms on hand. Another downside is that supposedly a check on the printed version will take several weeks, possibly months, to turn around.

A better option may be, if you can afford the time and expense, to take a trip up to Canada from NY and just find a similar agency. I don't know if you're in the city, or somewhere upstate that's not unreasonably farm from Toronto, so I don't know if this is an attractive option for you...but in terms of the overall time savings it may be worth a consideration :)

Thanks. I went through the website and it helped. So do the RCMP send the police certificate to us or directly to the visa processing office? In my case it is New Delhi, India

In my case they sent it to me. I imagine it will be the same for you. :)

So they will send It to me in New York?

If that's the address you gave the RCMP, I imagine so. I don't know if they have a requirement to only send to Canadian addresses.

Hey I have a question regarding the validity of the police clearance. I know it is valid for three months from the date it has been issued. Let's say that the police clearance is valid till 20th nov 2013 and the visa office receives it on 1st november 2013. Will they consider it valid till the application is processed completely...like a year? How is the validity calculated?

Finally! I got back my FBI Police Certificate after 10 weeks. The delay is due to the recent US government shutdown. Going to submit my application next week.

Hi Experience Members,

Police Certificate, what is the expiration date? My wife did US FBI/Security checks in 2011 which show no criminal record. This was sent to CIC by traceable means (UPS). FOSS report clearly shows that this document was received and updated on the file with dates. Just last week my MP called and said CIC needs another police report from US before they can make a decision on the file.

My question, does this certificate have a due date or what is the validity of this certificate? My wife only lived in US for one year before she came to Canada. Ever since that time she has been living in Canada.

Thanks,

POLICAP

FBI Police Certificate is only good for 3 months from the date issued. That is CIC won't accept it past 3 months.

Most police clearance reports are valid for 1 year in itself. However CIC will only accept the clearance if it has been submitted within the first 3 month after it issued date. CIC don't care about the clearance report if it passes 3 months after issuance despite it is valid for 1 year.

Not the experience I had with CIC and it isn't what they told me on the phone either, both a front line rep and their supervisor after i asked to speak with them. I also contacted the visa office in Manila and they confirmed the same thing which is that as long as it was issued within 3 months of when you apply it will be valid. They accepted my Lebanon police clearance 6 months after it was issued (7 months after i applied). We just got the visa so obviously it was okay. I made the extra effort to verify this because of the different information i received on the forums.

What they told me and it's verified on their website is that the certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply. It may work differently for non family class visas or RCMP checks, but this is how it works for other countries clearances applying for family class sponsorship.

That's issued not received......
