Hi All,

I'm a Canadian citizen who will be sponsoring my boyfriend as a common law spouse as we've been living together now for 2 years. We are going through all the paper work needed and came across the police certificate requirement from the FBI. Would someone who has gotten this info before be able to tell me if this is the right document needed?

On the CIC site it says I need a cover letter and fingerprint card. I went to the FBI site and found the "Standard Fingerprint Form (FD-258)" pdf which I'm assuming is the fingerprint card, but where do I get the cover letter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The cover letter and a check list plus the credit card form is all on the FBI website.

I didn't see anything about sponsoring your spouse and using this cover letter or fingerprint thing? Is it just for common law sponsorship?

I think it's part of the permanent residency application. It was listed under documents required from the principal applicant.

To canadiangirl78: would you please mind telling me where it is on the FBI site? The location listed on the CIC site isn't helpful as I think the FBI's site has since been updated and it no longer applies.
