Hi all,

I am trying to get a Police Certificate from Venezuela and I am wondering if anyone has had any luck obtaining one lately.

I am a US citizen and lived there about 15 years ago for 18 months so my contacts are pretty much nil.

Has anyone used a lawyer or service to represent them in obtaining a certificate.

Thx in advance.

Have you tried the online system?

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/VE.html#policerecords-6

Police Records
Available. Police certificates (Certificación de Antecedentes Penales, in Spanish) are available free of charge to Venezuelans and non-Venezuelans over the age of 18 who are physically present in Venezuela and have either a national identity card (cédula de identidad, in Spanish) or passport. Applicants must apply in person at the División de Antecedentes Penales del Ministerio de Interior y Justicia, Edificio Paris, piso 5, La Candelaria, Caracas, Venezuela. Venezuelans residing outside of Venezuela can obtain their police certificate by having a close relative resident in Venezuela submit a request (this option is not available to non-Venezuelans).

Alternatively, the any applicant may obtain a police certificate online. Consult the following web site http://www.mpprij.gob.ve/ and select the option "certificaciones para trámites intercionales".

Also, the US Embassy in Caracas has a list of lawyers on their website - they are not endorsed, of course -

and DOCUMENT all your efforts to get the PCC, starting with trying to follow CIC's instructions... in the case that you ultimately cannot get one, you will need to prove that you made a good faith effort to get one, so try to get as much in writing as possible...

Thanks so much for the posts. I have had mixed results with the online option but I have sent an email to three of the legal firms on the Embassy list so hopefully I can get some traction from one of the firms.

I am sure some things never change in VEN, one of them being if you know your way through the system it is relatively easy to accomplish anything.

Thanks again for the info.
