Hi all,

I am required to attach a police certificate along-with citizenship application if I have stayed more than 186 days outside Canada after getting PR. I have stayed around eight months in Saudi after getting PR. Can someone suggest the procedure as I recall it was never easy to get a police clearance cert from Saudi once you have left.

I will appreciate a quick feedback.

I had the same situation, if you got exit visa no need to send police certificate.
Here are the instructions:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/police-certificates/how/saudi-arabia.html

If you are not a citizen of Saudi Arabia:
If you live in Saudi Arabia:
Certificates are available only to current legal residents.

If you have current legal residence status in Saudi Arabia, follow the directions above for citizens of Saudi Arabia who live in Saudi Arabia.

If you do not have current legal residence status in Saudi Arabia, you are not required to provide a Saudi Arabian police certificate. If you are asked for a police certificate from Saudi Arabia, write: “I cannot provide a police certificate for the time I spent in Saudi Arabia because certificates are only available to people who have current legal residence status.”

If you live outside of Saudi Arabia:
Certificates are available only to current legal residents.

If you have current legal residence status in Saudi Arabia, follow the directions above for citizens of Saudi Arabia who live in Saudi Arabia.

Dear Asif,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I left Saudi on exit visa but my family didn't. They just came to Canada and never went back. My family had stayed with me in Saudi while I worked there. Can my wife also write the same note (cuz kids are under 18 and don't require police cert) that since she currently doesn't possess any legal resident status and per Saudi policy police certs are not issued to those who are no more residents of Saudi so she cant produce that. Will that work ! Please advise.
Can you PM me your contact number if possible.

Thanks again.

She should be fine with the same note as she is no more a resident, make sure you translate all stamps (Saudi) for your citizenship application.

Ok, thanks.
Stamps translation - There are so many on our passports, its gonna be a real task. Is it required by law !

Translate the stamps!
I went to my interview without translating them and now this is the only thing that’s delaying my application. They send me a letter 2 weeks after my interview asking me to translate them

Mazcar-As I mentioned earlier that my family left Saudi without having proper exit. Now translating all will show that they went out on exit/re-entry and never came back. Can it have an adverse impact on the application or CIC may ask for further docs to establish if they are no more legal residents of Saudi ! Please advise

Mazcar, in the stamps translation, the Hijra dates will have to be changed to corresponding Gregorian dates, right ! !

Please confirm

Hi..@Hasni,

I am also in the same situation and submitted a covering letter thru webform explaining that a police clearance certificate is not required for non-citizens who does not have legal residence status and not residing in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, I received the acknowledgement receipt of the document by IRCC but the status tracker is still showing send us additional information "waiting on you" status for about two months now.

So, could you kindly share your experience with what supporting documents you supplied to overcome the police clearance certificate from Saudi Arabia and whether it got accepted by IRCC without any more steps such as fingerprints, etc.?
