Police certificate & Birth Certificate from Indian embassy in NY

Hi Friends,
Can any one clarify the following?

1. For obtaining police certificate from Indian embassy in NY, USA, do I need to supply original passport along with my application?

2. I do NOT have Birth Certificate. If I obtain my Birth Certificate from Indian Embassy in NY, can I use that for applying for Canada Immigration?

3. How long does it take to get my PC (Police Certificate) and also BC (Birth Certificate) from India Embassy, NY, USA?

You dont need to submit your origninal passport to get PCC for any country only the copy is required.

2. I do NOT have Birth Certificate. If I obtain my Birth Certificate from Indian Embassy in NY, can I use that for applying for Canada Immigration?
Certainly you can use that but you just have to mention this to visa office in your cover letter that you lost your original and this has been re-issued.
3. How long does it take to get my PC (Police Certificate) and also BC (Birth Certificate) from India Embassy, NY, USA?
I dont know about USA but normally embassie take along time like 2-3months or maybe more to issue these things, you can get it all this from India in few weeks.

You need to submit your Original Passport to get PCC from Indian Consulate in US. I did that in Houston.

In fact in my case, I had applied for my passport renewal and PCC at the same time. After couple of weeks I got a call from Consulate saying you have to submit your passport. I told them I submitted the passport with 2 applications and I was told, PCC is Misc dept. So once I got the new passport, I sent the new passport with the old one with a cover letter. I got my PCC and my passports back in couple of weeks.
