Hi experts,

For Express Entry, how should i calculate my points per factor if my spouse is not accompanying ?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) table says "Points per factor - With a spouse" and "Points per factor - Without a spouse". Does it mean married/unmarried or accompanying/non-accompanying ? As my spouse is not accompanying me so should i calculate my point as "Without a spouse" ?

If you are married and your spouse is not going to apply with you, then you need to calculate your points without spouse. Now keep in mind, if you are granted PR status and then you apply for your wife, the possibilities of having your application denied for your family are considerable. Immigration does not see with kind eyes this type of playing with their system.

I know first hand, cases where families had to wait several years to be reunited because of this situation. Only until the main applicant becomes a citizen of Canada, and just to start the process. Please be aware of this.

Thanks a lot for replying.

Actually my wife is not able to accompany me as she is in govt service and holding official passport. And CIC doesn't accept official passport for immigration. This is why she is not accompanying. And its not wise for her to leave the job and get a regular passport before i am confirmed with my PR. She can quit from her job when i will sponsor her later on.

What you suggest on this please ?

You are very welcome...

This is a very interesting point, and to be honest I do not have experience on the matter. Regardless, passports are documents that are requested after an invitation for PR is extended, again, I am not familiar with this type of document.

If I were you a will look into two options:

1. I will contact an attorney with experience in official foreign documents, such as military personnel, politicians, and such, and try to obtain information on how to proceed.

or

2. I will wait until January and see specifically for EE what type of documents are going to be requested and at what stage within the process, and depending on that make a more informed decision on either leave your wife out or not of the application process. Keep in mind, if this is not a problem, she could keep her job and status until you obtain an invitation for PR, with her in the process, then she can request the change on her personal status and continue with you to the next step of the residency process.

I hope this gives you an idea....

Hi,
What should be the POF min. amount to be maintained for an EE profile with non-accompanying spouse?
