Hi,

So a colleague of mine was filing their express entry profile today and i asked how many points they have to which they replied 480. I was shocked as i have been working in Canada longer and have slightly more education and we are both the same NOC code and profession. How i asked, that's what they lawyer calculated he said. We are both using the same immigration lawyer who works on behalf of our company. This same lawyer told me i only had 340 points back in March, so I thought something must be wrong. So, i went onto the CIC website and found the ranking system and calculated that I actually have 502 points!!!!!!!! I called the lawyer and told him and asked why he put me through the Ontario PNP. He wouldn't admit he made the mistake with the points and as it is not on paper i cant prove it, instead he said at the time the express entry was new and above 600 points so it wouldn't have mattered, that's why i put you through the PNP. OK i said, my nomination is due in March so at least i can go into the express entry then and be certain of an invitation. No he said, your PNP cant go express entry as we filed it the old way so you will be going through Sydney and it will take 14 months as you cant switch the nomination for express entry route!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!!

Anyway, my question is this. Can i set up my express entry profile now while still in the process on an Ontario PNP? I will probably get invited straight away in the next draw so I wont even need a nomination because i have 500 points. Does it matter if i get nominated when i have already been accepted by the federal express entry? I mean cant you get nominated and decide not to proceed with it anyway? The difference between 14 months and 6 months for residency is huge. Not alone that i never needed a PNP in the first place if he had of calculated the points right in the first place!!!!!

I am not a lawyer but I will tell you this that you can apply for as many immigration streams as you qualify and increase your chances.... you cannot apply for the same stream until the first application is given a decision...

I know people you have applied both in FSW and CEC in the good old days... once PR finalized from one app just inform the VO that you are already a PR and they will withdraw all your other ongoing applications...

My advice - get a second opinion outside your company lawyer from another lawyer... plus also look into the repercussions that you may get within your own company where you currently work if you do decide to hire another lawyer..

@ DJ1234:

Yeah, just do Express Entry. Unfortunately, if you already applied through the paper-based route for OINP, I'm guessing your bank draft has already been cashed, no? Plus you'll have to pay for a new application in EE. You can easily withdraw the paper application once your electronic PR app progresses.

I feel you. I too have lost so much time and money because of my consultant's incompetence that I'm just doing everything myself.

Now I get the sense that these consultants are so old-school that they're stubbornly doing the old paper-based ways rather than learn about Express Entry. My consultant had no idea about the OINP-EE stream without job offer where I got my own nomination!
