Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding my study permit. I have been issued visa until June 2012 but my course of study ends on 30th Aug 2012. Having requested IO at the PoE I have been issued study permit until 30th Aug 2012. My intention is to apply for PGWP after studies. But I have been advised to apply for permit extension at least 2 months before my current permit expires. What will be the financial requirements for me to extend my study permit within Canada ? Also, pls advise how can I apply for PGWP 2 months before my current study permit expires without an academic transcript in hand ? Because if I wait until 30th Aug to obtain the trascript and then apply for PGWP, my study permit will have expired during processing of my PGWP application.

You would have to apply for an extension of your study permit, as it must be valid when you apply for the PGWP . The officer should have extended the study permit to at least 30 days past your date estimated for graduation.

But the problem is that if I will apply for study permit extension won't CIC argue that I have already been issued study permit until end date of my course then why do I need to extend it further when I don't intend to study and my primary objective from that extension is to apply for PGWP ?

Look, you need a valid study permit to apply for a PGWP. You won't have proof of graduation to apply, when your course finishes. So you either apply for an extension or give up on the PGWP.

Hi PMM,

I am willing to apply for study permit extension (no doubt about that) but how will I do it without any paperwork to support the reason for extension ? I mean CIC can plainly refuse it as I already have study permit until last date of my course. Do you think I will have to enroll in another course and get a LoA to extend my study permit or should I just mention my intentions about applying for PGWP and apply for an extension without a LoA ?
