Hello,

I have already sent my application to sponsor my wife to come here to Canada, however I m a bit worried about the eligibility because a part of the not eligible to sponsor is the social assistance, well I didnt know about that beforeso the thing is I arrived here in Canada 2014, and decided to go back as a full-time student in 2015. I decided to get a Low-income bus/transit pass for september 2015-september 1,2016 which is now expired. And when I filed my taxes for 2015 together with the tax forms for school and stuff I believe im also getting an GST/HSTC which I didnt intend to but it's automatically given. Are they considered social assistance? And will it affect my eligibility to sponsor?

Thank You

No I don't think the GST/HST credit counts as social assistance... Well I hope not cause I get it too!
Considering it's sucj a low amount I really don't think it counts, but someone correct me if I am wrong!

Social assistance (also known as welfare) is where you apply for the benefit directly, and the province gives you a small amount of money monthly for basic basic needs. You also are audited regularly when in receipt of assistance.

If this hasn't happened, then you have not received it.

I see, i just want to confirm it because I also read something about it but it was wayback 2010 from the forums and what about the low-income bus/transit fares ?

It's not the same as welfare.

So basically its about receiving a money?

I think I understand it better now, so basically its just about recieving a cash money for a monthly support? And it has me being paranoid about this is baseless. Since low-income bus/transit bus(which is expired already) is baseless for me being paranoid ?

It's about government support because the person couldn't support themselves.

In which the low-income bus/transit pass doesn't have to do with it?

Did you get that with welfare? They can be granted without...

As far as I understand from al the things you said is a No, because I don't get any money, and I was the one who paid for the bus/transit bus, which is originaly 99$/month then i applied for a low income bus/transit pass that lessen the amount of total price that makes it 49$/month paid by me every month.

Then it shouldn't be an issue.
