Hey there okay so I have been doing an amendment to my study permit application with CIC for about 3 months now because they have sent back my amendment application TWICE due to mistakes made by CIC.

Now I am facing unemployment as its down to the wire on time, my study permit has "prohibited to work" printed on it, hence why I need to amend my study permit. It was issued in August 2014, two months after the June 2014 change, so it should NOT have had that printed on it, thats a mistake from CBSA.

Once my study permit is amended I can then get a SIN number to give to my employer.

I was informed by UBC that since I am a US citizen, I can pay 150 dollars right at the border in the airport for a new study permit and hopefully get the correct language printed on it. Is that correct???

To be clear I dont think you being a U.S citizen matters in this context since CBSA does not handle amendments / study permit extensions etc for any citizenship. UBC is right that you can get an initial study permit at the border as a U.S citizen but nothing after that.

That being said, I dont think you have anything to lose by asking them. If they reject you, then nothing happens, you just go back home.

i know they cant amend it, but do you think they could issue me a new one if I did pay for it? and on immigration websites it just says that US citizens and Greenland citizens can apply straight at the border
