Hello everyone,

I've found this forum to be really helpful for getting answers to some FAQ's, so I apologize in advance if this is a run of the mill question. Figure, I'd ask it anyway.

My wife got her spousal open work permit in Feb 2015, but only entered Canada in May 2015. So, when entering the dates for her physical presence for citizenship eligibility should she consider it from February or May ?

Choosing May adds an additional 90+ days (~ 3months) for her to meet the minimum eligibility of 1095 days. Can someone please help me in this matter.

thanks,
Mahesh

The question is about how many days was the applicant physically present in Canada, so it should be since the day she entered Canada (May)

I am NOT an expert, but this is basic stuff:

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PRESENCE CALCULATOR. They clearly instruct what dates to enter where.

And of course counting days physically present in Canada is about days actually physically present in Canada.

Since the time period prior to becoming a PR, during which the individual was present in Canada with temporary status, such as with a Work Permit, only gets credited HALF DAYS for each full day of presence, NOT counting the three months between February and May should only make a difference of 45 days NOT 90.

REMINDER: the prudent applicant will also have a comfortable margin, or "buffer," above the minimum. Applicants relying on pre-landing credit are among those (along with frequent travelers, among others) who might want to wait to apply with a little bigger margin than many others might. Reaching the 1095 day minimum threshold is only ONE factor among many the prudent applicant will take into consideration when deciding WHEN is the best time to apply. Cutting-it-close invites risks. Oft times waiting can mean taking the oath sooner.
