Photo requirement

I'm really confused about the photo requirement of CIC.
Today, I went to Walmart to take the portrait (believe it or not, $15 for two copies!!!). I tried to show them the instructions provided by CIC, but they refused to read it. After the prints came out, they stamped "Portrait Studio in Walmart, Address.......Photo taken:Nov.03.2012, I certify this to be a true photograph of_______ Signature of Official" on the back of every copy. I told them not to do so, but they refused and said "we have to do that".
According to the "Photo Requirement" in the DOCUMENT CHECKLIST(IMM 5690), "On the back of 5 of the photographs, write the name and DOB of the person who appears in the photo as well as the date the photo was take. Leave the sixth photograph blank". However, according to the "Appendix A: Photo Specifications" in "How to complete the forms", I need to "bear the date the photo was taken directly on the back".

My question is: Is it OK to stamp the date of taken on the back of the sixth photo? Otherwise, I have to argue with them.
