phd 2013...need help

hello friends,
hopefully u all r fine.
i am student of dual degree i.e. bachelors+masters(5 yr plan)
i am planning a phd(cell biology,cell signalling) from canada.
as i will be completing my degree by june 2013.
i want to get in canada asap.
is it possible to start applying now and join by sept 2013.
where should i start???
should i start sending research proposals to supervisors??
as supervisors have some what similar ideas but vary a bit.should i write different research purposal
for each one of them or is there anything else i should do before it.
kindly help me by step by step procedure.

Start now
First search universities related to your field.
Search the Supervisor who is related to your field.
Email him your complete profile + research proposal
If he agreed to supervise you every thing will be OK...........

but i have yet not appeared for ielts test.will it be ok if i appear later on like when some supervisor agrees to my research purposal.And what abt research purposal.it should be general idea or detailed one??

In the mean time appear for IELTS you can also show a letter from your previous institute but IELTS is better.
ideally a research proposal is detail one, but you can also write general one, but it should clearly define the area in which you are going to do research.........
