Pgwp - health insurance mandatory?

I am a recent pgwp holder and have my student health insurance expiring end of this year.

I have got a job offer to start from 20th Jan 2019. Company will provide me health insurance also. My question is : Am I required as per law to have health insurance for 1 Jan - 20 Jan. Please advise

There is no law requiring you to have health insurance. However, note that employer-provided benefits are not health insurance. It is just an extension of normal provincial coverage, things like physio, prescription drugs etc. Extended benefits also generally require that you have provincial coverage first.
