Hi everyone,

I need some advice on my situation.

My PGWP was originally supposed to be around 3 years, but I only received 2 years because my passport expired earlier.
I have now renewed my passport.
Current status:

  • PGWP expires: August 2, 2026
  • CEC PR application submitted
  • AOR received: May 28, 2026

Since my PGWP was shortened due to passport expiry, I believe I may be eligible to apply for a PGWP extension to recover the remaining validity.
However, since I already have my CEC AOR, I am also eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP).

My confusion is:

  • Should I apply for a PGWP extension first to recover the remaining time?
  • Or should I directly apply for BOWP since I already have AOR?
  • Is there any advantage of doing PGWP extension in my case, or is BOWP the correct route?

I just want to make sure I choose the correct and safest option to maintain my work status in Canada.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
