PGP 2017 : Can i sponsor my parents (working for 2 years, husband working for 6)

hi Guys,

quick question, one of my friends wife want to sponsor her parents but she has been working only for 2 years but her husband has been working in Canada for 6 years.
so in this case can she still sponsor her parents ( can she show her husbands income merged with her income for 3 years), if yes then who should be the sponsor ?

Hi

Provided the husband's income from the earlier years is enough to meet LICO, yes, she can sponsor them with him as the co-signer.

I am not sure she can sponsor her parents in 2017. Sponsor (not a co-signer) should provide NOAs for 3 previous years - 2015, 2014, 2013. You better double-check.

It doesn't matter whether the required income is from the sponsor or the co-signer.

I am not talking about a required income but about NOAs. Maybe I'm wrong but I strongly believe that you couldn't apply as a sponsor without your own NOAs.

From CIC checklist:
Option C print out or Notice of Assessment (NOA) issued by the Canada Revenue Agency for each of the three most recent taxation years
Note: If your spouse or common-law partner is a co-signer, provide the same document.


So it looks like if she is working for only 2 years but filed her taxes for 2013-2015 then she could sponsor her parents using her hubby as a co-signer. If she doesn't have her own NOAs for 2013-2015 years then I'm not sure that she would be eligible to be a sponsor.

Yes she can be a sponsor. If only co-signer has NOAs, then that is fine. One could land as a PR and apply for parents immediately as long as co-signer has required NOAs.

Much appreciated, so final conclusion is that she can apply even thought she hasn't worked for 3 years but since her husband has NOA plus meets LICO so she can sponser her parents.
