Hi everybody,
I'm planning to move to Canada with my husband and 1 year old child and I'm collecting info regarding cost of living in various areas. In all the documents I've found on the web there's a costing that refers to "Personal Taxes" with an annual amount around $ 20.000... Does anyone know what is this about? Which kind of taxes is referring to? In Italy, if you are permanent employee, the State already take taxes from your salary on a monthly basis so the amount of extra taxes that you eventually have to pay at the end of the year is very low.

Many thanks
Chiara

I don't know what it is referring to. Canada has a similar system where the employer deducts your taxes from your salary and when you do your taxes, you usually get some money back.

But to compare the cost of living in various areas, you must consider the difference in taxes you would pay in different provinces. Alberta taxes are lower; B.C. taxes higher. These differences are not significant if you are earning $20K per year; they get serious for those who earn higher incomes.
