Hi there. We are 9 months into our application and I am now at home looking at medical coverage while I wait. I figured it is a good time to ensure I am covered for when I arrive in Canada as I assume I will not be able to qualify for health coverage right away.

Can anyone please share information about the minimum period for which I would need to be covered on my own private travel medical insurance? Thanks in advance.

Note that it won't cover the cost of everyday medical expenses, only for the "unforseen emergencies".

We used GMS (www.gms.ca) for gap insurance. Cost about CAD650 each. Had a high deductable, so really only for major medical or seriuos accident cover. Of course it is not mandatory to have this gap insurance, bt how would you pay if you got hospitalised in a traffic accident etc.....
