I have an update. In terms of my background, briefly, I have been a PR for 5 years and have spent most of that in Nova Scotia. I am a US citizen married to a Canadian. I easily meet the residency requirements for PR renewal and for citizenship, but at this time I'm only renewing my PR and I am not applying for citizenship. I did NOT apply for expedited processing of my PR card renewal.

I applied for a PR card renewal in mid September and last Friday (3 days ago) I received an email from IRCC, just stating "This confirms that your application for your Permanent Resident card has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2018/09/13" and then it just provides some frequently asked questions and links to application status and timeline.

I was a little shocked to hear from CIC/IRCC this quickly given that it's only been 8 weeks since I applied. The strangest part about all of this is that the email they sent me last Friday explicitly states that I can check my application status using my UCI, but when I try, I still can't access my application status on the CIC website and it continues to tell me "We were not able to identify you using the information you provided". So, it appears CIC just emailed me to let me know they received my PR card renewal 8 weeks ago but I'm guessing either it isn't in process yet or they haven't bothered to update the website. Very confusing, as it seems like most people renewing their PR card do not hear anything at all until about 2 weeks before their decision is made and that is usually 2.5-3 months after applying, but in my case, I hear from them exactly 2 months after applying but I can't check my application status.

So, I registered an account with CIC and was able to find my PR card renewal application and link it to my account. It currently states "We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you". However, my application is still not available at all when I try to check it the generic application status site. For anyone else in my situation, I strongly recommend you create/register an account on the CIC site and link your application to your account, as that appears to be more accurate and up to date than the generic application status site.

You probably get another post soon saying they started processing your application blahbla blah
And now, the status becomes "DM" but the detail still says it is being processed. No Email after AoR. In my case, on-line status seems to lack behind the actual progress. I would suggest people here that if your on-line status does not progress as fast as some other people, it may not mean you are in fact falling behind. They are just too busy to update the status.

Hi Paul2587,

I have the exact same situation as you. I applied for a PR card renewal in mid September & received an email from IRCC stating "This confirms that your application for your Permanent Resident card has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2018/09/13" and then it just provides some frequently asked questions and links to application status and timeline.

It is bewildering that I cannot locate my application from the ecas website. But yeah i will follow your advise & I will create a CIC account and link the PR card renewal application with my CIC account.

Hi, have you tried checking ECAS today? I checked this morning and I am now on both ECAS and the more detailed CIC site as well. My ECAS status is "Decision Made" but then when I click on that, ECAS says:

  1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on September 13, 2018.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on November 19, 2018.
  3. We started processing your application on November 19, 2018.
Very confusing; my CIC account also shows my application as in process. I don't know how it can be in process yet also show "Decision Made". It also scares me that they've processed my application so quickly; the processing timeline right now for PR renewal is over 100 days but they've started processing my PR renewal in 66 days. Makes me wonder if there's something wrong or if my application is already rejected since it seems to be taking everyone else so much longer.

Hi edwincca, I'm now in the same situation. ECAS says "DM" (Decision Made) but then when I click on that, it says my application is being processed. I am not sure how it can be both in process and DM at the same time but this appears to be very common.

My Ecas still doesnt show anything. Since I received my email from IRCC only today, I will give it a couple of days before my ecas gets updated.

Good news is that there is progress in your application.

Hi guys,

Is anyone here in the similar situation? I still didn't received PR card in mail yet. It's over a month. :(

I applied my renewal as "urgent processing" with designated proof and documents sent on September 12, 2018 by Xpress mail with tracking. The application status is following;
  1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on September 17, 2018.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on October 9, 2018.
  3. We started processing your application on October 9, 2018.
  4. Your Permanent Resident card was sent by mail on October 18, 2018.
I live in Vancouver, BC. I am wondering how Canada post strike will affect my shipping but it seems too late.

I will share my story.

My PR Card was expired on Oct 02, 2018 but I have suddenly had a plan to trip to Japan from Nov 1st to Nov 18th, 2018.
After purchased the tickets to Japan, I applied my renewal as "urgent processing" with proof on September 12th, 2018.
I was expecting receiving PR Card by the time I leave Canada on Oct 31st but It didn't make it. It supposed to be receiving in 1-2weeks so I asked my friend to check the mailbox everyday. (Once he gets the card, I tried to ask him to send by Fedex but the card didn't be arrived) and I had to be in Japan so I leave Canada and arrived Japan on Nov 1st.

I also tried to get PRTD in Japan but they told it takes 2weeks to 1month with my original passport and there is no guarantee I get the document before my return flight on Nov 18th. So I gave up to do the application.

On Nov 18th, I tried to check-in my flight returning to Canada, the check-in desk denied the boarding because I didn't have renewed PR Card. I appealed that I already renewed my PR but I didn't get it because of Canada post's strike. The desk agent couldn't decide it so called supervisor and manager. They made a call CIC and Canada embassy in Japan to confirm my PR status and renewal status. Finally Canada embassy in Japan made negotiation with CIC and approved boarding my flight. I made the flight returning to Canada and it was no problem with entering Canada on November 18th as planned.

I still waiting for my PR card by mail but it already passed a month. I'll probably need to take a flight to Japan soon but I don't wanna have same situation. Where is my PR Card?? How can I find it out? (The mailing address is 100% right in application, double checked)
