Does anyone know the timeframe within which the PR receives their card after landing? Does that just come in the mail? Also - do you get a different document / paper at the border when you land indicating that you are a landed permanent resident?

Add about a week for mailing (yes, they come by Canada Post). You get the signed and stamped copy of your COPR back. That will serve as sufficient evidence of PR status for the first year (generally speaking). Put the COPR away somewhere safe....don't loose it. You need it later in life for CPP.

So, the same form that you receive in the mail prior to landing - they just sign it and that's your confirmation? We are asking for the purpose of buying a house in Ontario and making sure we don't get charged the foreign buyer tax

Yes, there are two copies and they sign, you sign and initial a few places, and that's your confirmation. PR card does come in the mail and until you receive that (times vary, processing time is on their website) you use your CoPR.
