Hi Guys,

I got my permanent residency in July 2014. I reside in Canada for almost six years. I have a question for you guys. My country do not entertain dual citizenship, I am in the mindset I do not want to loose my citizenship back home and in the same time I am planning to stay in Canada for another few years. Is there any way, Can I renew my permanent residency for another 5 years term without going for Canadian Citizenship. If not, let me know if there is any other options other than OCI stamping. Thanks!!

You don't have to apply for citizenship if you don't want to. You can stay a PR for your entire life if you want, as long as you maintain the residency obligation. Would just need to apply to renew your PR card every 5 years.

Hi,

It looks like you are talking about India.
It is not mandatory to get citizenship once you stayed 4 years in Canada in last 6 years. It is completely up-to you. If you do not want to apply for citizenship you can renew your PR card again and again (provided you complete residency obligation). Nobody is going to force you to get citizenship.

I hope it answers your query.

Thanks guys for the confirmation. :P

Better to get Canada passport and OCI for India.

Why it is better?
