Dear Forum,

I have a PR Card since June 2013 (Year I landed) Due to some obligations I was unable to stay or complete my immigration and had to return back to my country. I did Visit Canada twice in between but probably for 2- 4 weeks. Now I have returned and planned to stay and complete my residency. I have a few questions and need guidance.
  1. I got married in 2017, and want to sponsor my wife. Will it be possible and how do I go about it?
(My wife has traveled with me on a Travel Visa, on the application should I mention she resides with me in Canada or previous residing country ? )
  2. Do I need to update CIC about my marital status ? and i also had renewed my passport in 2017, how do I update my passport details ?
Would appreciate your help and guidance :)

Before answering the questions and assuming you were not reported when coming back to Canada, keep the following in mind otherwise you would eventually lose your PR status:
- Do not try to renew your PR or make any contact with IRCC until you complete 2 years to fulfill your residency obligation.
- Do not leave Canada for 2 years to fulfill your residency obligation, otherwise there is no guarantee for you to come back without being reported.

For the questions,
1. You can't sponsor your spouse without meeting the residency obligation. Don't even attempt to do it before you complete 2 years. The application is guaranteed to be rejected and your own PR may be at risk.
2. Don't contact IRCC for 2 years until you fulfill your residency obligation. There is no need to update your martial status or passport once you become a PR.
Good Luck!
