I was wondering if someone could clarify something for me. I was sponsored by my wife recently and I will be recieving my permanant resident card soon. I have read that permanent residents have pretty much the same rights as Canadian citizens except they cannot vote, run for goverment positions or work for the goverment. But it does not state whether this is the Federal Goverment or Provincial. My wife told me that someone she knew who is permanant resident could not work for the Federal goverment but found employment in the provincial goverment. Is this true? Any info would be of great help.

Yes, the Federal gov't gives preference to Canadian Citizens, most provincial gov'ts don't

Thank you very much. There are some potential provencial goverment jobs I have been looking at but I wanted to make sure I was not going to be shot down just beacuse I am a permanent resident and not a Canadian citizen. I kind of figured that they would prefer Canadian citizens for federal jobs.
