Passport validity

hi!

We applied for spousal sponsorship inland in January 2018. We got our decision made and are now just waiting for the landing appointment in Vancouver. A few months back i read a thread here were someone was saying that the passports must be valid for another 6 months when you land, if not you’ll be allowed to do your landing. Is that true? I’m kind of freaking out because I realized my sons passport will expire in June.

Yes this is true! Its very explicit direction from ircc about this

Why not rush order a new passport for your son? Most countries allow you to keep the old expired passport (marked as invalid). You could then notify CIC of the change, and at worse bring both passports.

Thank you for your answers! I’ve been in contact with the Norwegian consulate here, and I’m allowed to keep the old one valid until the new one is here, which should only take about 4 weeks, so it will still have six months left no matter what thanks again
