Passport sized photographs?

Hi guys, those who landed in canada, or anyone who knows, plz tell me wjat is the photographs used for? They asked us to carry photographs, so may i know if they require it in airport?

I got only 4 photographs,will it be fine?

I was not asked for any photograph when I arrived here las Friday. For the required documents, refer to this link:
