passport request by email, Is it real ?

I received an email asking me to send my passport for concluding the processing. It has my file number and my name in the email.

I think I can safely presume that this is a valid request.

Can any one share their experience about passport request thru email ? Have you sent your passport for the visa based on this email ?

Is it safe to send my passports based on the email ?

Should I wait for a courier/postal-mail with more info or this-is-it as far as passport request ?

Should I sent the police cert by myself along with my passport for stamping ?

we received passport request in email too and it never came by post.
check the email it was sent from - it should end in @international.gc.ca

I am sure the e mail is genuine. Nothing to worry for sending the PP bacause you will be sending it by courier to the embassy with your file number and mail reference. Better you attach a print of the e mail too.

Any one wither personal experience of sending based on email would really boost my confidence.

Not sure why you say this. I presume to wait out for the physical paper to come by post, I presume

Mine came via email only.
You are only going to be sending it to the relevent CIC office, so there is nothing to worry about.

Hey, I got my passport request via email too, didn't get any mail in the post, all our communication were thru emails, even that I was in the Lebanon and Damascus was my visa office. I sent my passport, 2 photos, copy of the email, and a cover letter containing my B number via DHL, when they stamp the passport, they sent me another email to send the DHL to pick it up.

Hi,

I got my passport request by e-mail too. The e-mail address had an end " @ international.gc.ca" plus I knew the IO that e-mailed me because I wrote to her some times before. I mailed the passport in the same day by FedEx and two days later the same IO called me here in Vancouver, two hours after the passport was delivered at the Consulate. More two days, and she e-mailed me saying the passport would be sent back to me the next working day by FedEx (paid by me).

My passport request came by email as well (applied through Vienna). I sent my passport off the next day, along with a print out of the letter and a cover letter saying "as requested, I'm sending my passport bla bla bla". Got my passport back with the visa in it in under two weeks

Next week, I also got the passport request via regular mail - it was exactly the same as the email.

I think if it has your immigration file number in it (the correct one), then it's safe to assume it's legit. Besides, you're sending it to the visa office. Even if it wasn't legit, I'm sure it'd be safe with them. It's not like you're sending it to some bogus address.

I finally sent out the passport by courier and it has reached NewDelhii.(Jan 4th 2010)

I presume that I should receive my Passport back in the next two weeks.

Not sure if a Background check will be done again.

Is there a way where I can schedule pick up of the PP instead of them mailing back by certified post ?

eCAS still says that my app is In Process.

Any idea when eCAS might get updated ?

It will change to decision made after they stamp the visa on your passport. At least that is what I was told.

Could u please share when the New Delhi office started processing your application?

I am also waiting to hear about when I will receive a request to submit my passport, and the New delhi office started processing my case in the beginning of Nov. 2009.
