My wife has not got her passport yet, it's in the process and I want to apply for her spousal application.

Can I submit the application without the passport and then send the copy of the passport later or should I wait until the passport is issued?

Thanks'

Hey there,

Me and my husband actually had the same issue. And where wondering how to do things. To wait until my passport is ok or send the app and after send a passport copy. However we decided to send all together, it was easier for us...

However maybe someone else who applied recently can help you more... But I have been reading the last posts and a lot of people have their app returned as the app is not complete... I read somewhere that from 2017 all the apps that are not complete they will be sensing back without requesting for the missing info as they were doing in the past... Maybe I am wrong and someone can give you more information into this issue, as I am not completely sure...

Good luck to you!

Just send a copy of the old..Then when u get the new you can upload it to them.. Otherwise it will hold you up..That's what we did

Wait Wait Wait

Your app will be returned if you will not attach photocopy of Passport

Shareview is correct. If you include an expired passport or no passport at all, your application will be returned. As of 2017, IRCC is now returning all applications that are missing anything. You will need to wait to apply until she gets her new passport.

Just quoting from IMM5533E "Although you do not need to have a valid passport or travel documents when you submit your application, You must have a valid travel document or passport to be able to travel to Canada and to be admitted for permanent residence."

So when you are submitting an application you can include a photocopy of your expired passport or travel document but when they will request your passport you will need to submit a valid passport. I hope its clear now.

Thank you!! appreciate it!!

one last question, if my wife successfully gets her permanent resident visa through sponsorship, how long the visa is valid for? is it 6 months?

How long is a permanent resident visa valid?
A permanent resident visa is issued for a period not extending beyond the earliest expiry date of the sponsored person’s (and any family members):

medical results
passports

Important information: Once issued, permanent resident visas cannot be extended. If applicants do not use the visas within their validity period, they must re-apply for immigration to Canada. Their sponsor will have to submit a new sponsorship application and pay new processing fees.

I hope you will find your answer here.
